Howdy, friends!

My name is Whitney and I'm a born and raised Eastern Kentuckian (and dang proud of it). I go traipsin' around the woods in search of plants, mushrooms, wild fruits and vegetables, and I turn them into goodies for myself, my family, and my friends. I also enjoy just stompin' around to enjoy the scenery. I am at home in the woods.

My love for the outdoors developed at a young age and I was always outside, climbing trees, digging in the dirt with spoons, catching snakes, fishing, etc. My love for fungi came a little bit later, approximately 5 years ago. I was not at my healthiest, mentally or physically, during that time. I decided to work on myself and began hiking and getting outside even more. I did this to get away from a crappy relationship and to also work on my physical/mental health. Turns out, it works wonders! I suddenly became interested in taking pictures of every single mushroom I saw. From that sparked my curiosity of what each mushroom was and whether I could eat it or not. That all snowballed and I went headfirst into the foraging world and haven't looked back since.

Foraging has helped me in more ways that I can even count. It has given me an extremely fulfilling, satisfying hobby, while also allowing me to reconnect with my roots and with nature: the best medicine there is.

Foraging has allowed me to connect with new people and create new relationships with others within the foraging community. It has provided me with so many opportunities that I never dreamed possible.

Since I began this wild journey, I have been named Appodlachia's Appalachian of the Year and Appalachian Creator of the Year in 2022 and was selected as the Social Media Influencer of the Year for 2022 by the Appalachian Arts and Entertainment Awards.

I plan to continue to create more good ol' Appalachian content and share my knowledge and products of the outdoors with y'all.

So, kick your shoes off and sit a spell, because I don't plan on goin' anywhere anytime soon.
